10th November 2019

The Empowering Girls through Education (EGE) project is conducting a girl safe spaces activity in T/A Changata, Thyolo district, from 9th November to 10th November 2019. The activity is aimed at empowering girls to enhance their voices in the formulation and implementation of community bi-laws on reducing any forms of discrimination against teen mothers, as well as fight for their rights to education.

This activity is taking place in the four schools that the project is being implemented in, namely; Muwalo, Malosa, Masambanjati and Chikumba primary schools. The project is implemented by the Creative Center for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) with funding from Rise Up, under the Public Health Institute (PHI).

The Safe Spaces activity is targeting 100 girls in total from all schools, which after being mentored, are supposed to reach out to their peers with information that they have learnt from the activity, so that they may also be empowered.

In attendance were CRECCOM staff members, including; the project Manager, and the project officers. The Headteachers, female Teachers, mother groups, the Community Development Assistant, the Health Surveillance Assistance and the Youth Officer were also in attendance to help empower the girls.
