Village Head Saiti, of Saiti village, T/A Chikowi is one of the local chiefs that are really doing good in Zomba in as far as ensuring girls' attendance in schools is concerned. At first, she never cared about education because to her education was more or less like a waste of time for girls. What they needed was just 'basic education' and not much. However, with the coming in of projects dealing with girls education, her mind set started changing gradually.

Having gone under ASPIRE orientation last year, VH Saiti saw it as a great chance to prove her past thinking wrong, that just like boys, girls do really need education to excel. She drew her own action plan to visit girls who dropped out and others who do not like school. In the course of her visits, she came across a learner named Eneless Nyalira who was being dragged to early marriage by her siblings. By then (2016), the girl was in form 3. Looking at the issue, the village head was very concerned and she intervened by taking the matter to Senior Chief Chikowi who later gave custody of the girl to Village head Saiti. Since then, Eneless stays with the village head and is now expected to sit for 2016/2017 Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations. She provides everything for the girl ranging from school needs to her daily life needs as a girl just like her own child.

Apart from that, village head Saiti is also a member of mother group committee at Ulumba CDSS. As a chief, she has managed to work very closely with other committees like PTA to ensure that education standards are improved at this school. For that, they have managed to introduce a school feeding program and are able to feed students during lunch hour to prepare them for study circles that are scheduled in the afternoon of Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays. It is VH Saiti who provided a land through which the committees grow maize and rice for the school feeding program.

Again, as a member of mother group committee, VH Saiti together with her fellow mother group members supports needy learners with school materials like exercise books, pens, pencils, Soap, body lotion and school fees as shown in the picture below. Her passion is to see more girls being supported so that they should not indulge themselves in bad things which can ruin their educational life.
