At the recent Thyolo District Education Network (DEN) meeting, CRECCOM reaffirmed its commitment to improving education for girls, joining hands with key education stakeholders to explore ways of transforming learning opportunities in the district. The gathering brought together education leaders, government officials, and NGOs, all united by a shared goal—ensuring that every child, especially girls, has access to quality education.
During the discussions, CRECCOM shared insights into its ongoing work, highlighting two initiatives that are making a difference in the lives of many young girls.
The Let Girls Learn II Project, supported by Echidna Giving, is designed to remove the barriers that prevent girls from completing their education. It focuses on empowering girls by addressing challenges such as early marriages, financial constraints, and societal expectations that often limit their opportunities. By engaging communities, parents, and educators, the project ensures that girls receive the support they need to stay in school and succeed.
Alongside this, the She Creates Change Project, funded by Room to Read, is equipping girls with the confidence and leadership skills to take charge of their future. Through inspiring video documentaries of young girls from low income countries, the project provides life skills training and nurtures young girls into changemakers who can advocate for themselves and inspire others in their communities. It fosters an environment where girls are not just seen as beneficiaries of education but as active participants in shaping their own destinies.

The meeting was not just about presenting progress; it was a platform for collaboration. Representatives from the District Education Manager’s office, Primary Education Advisors, and various NGOs, including FOCHTA, Mary’s Meals, Chipembere Community Development Organisation, NICE, Water for People, and Change for Us, came together to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore new strategies to improve education in Thyolo.
Each organization brought its unique perspective, but the collective vision remained the same—ensuring that education is a right, not a privilege.
